House of Holland A/W 11

Well it seems like Henry Holland has done it again and attacked LFW by it's pin heeled stilettos. His latest collection of 'Granny Chic' took the catwalk by storm mixing Harris tweed with chunky knits the miss-matched-ness of the fabrics, colours and prints stay true to the House of Holland bold style. It is very welcoming to see some colour on the cards for the winter months escaping the boring tradition of dressing as dark as the skies. Quirky prints and traditional fabrics capture the OAP essence meanwhile the daring colour combinations and contemporary designs will draw in the cool crowd and with front rowers such as Alexa Chung and Pixie Geldof on his side he is sure to stand strong in the 'whos wearing who' this coming fall. Though the printed tee's were down to only a couple of styles this collection is definitely aimed at a higher market level. With just the Tee's and stripy socks looking likely to be the only 'affordable' pieces from the collection it is refreshing to see the House have the opportunity to explore beyond the basics and spilling into a higher market level.

Not only has he delivered a rather intriguing collection the House has also presented a tongue in cheek take on Telly Shopping short video. We see Henry, Pixie and Dree Hemmingway modeling the collection in a rather surreal setting jam packed with cheesy grins and cartoon pop up speech bubbles. This fun and entertaining video presents the collection in its full glory showing us the House of Holland audience definitely doesn't take life too seriously. Instead an essence of fun and playfulness emphasises the collections boldness injecting the garments with personality and character to brighten up the coming winter months.

New York Fashion Week

With Fall '11 New York Fashion Week well underway I've routed through the collections and picked out the best of the bunch so far. The overview of the shows so far inform us that Grunge is coming back strong with a twist of glamour thrown in for a new take on the trend. Although I believe the best is still yet to come, Alexander Wang, Mandy Coon and Prabal Gurung are leading the way to our new Autumn/Winter fashion wardrobe.

Alexander Wang never fails to impress and this collection is no exception. This black and grey collection is highlighed with flashes of pink to set the tone of a dark winter. Both functional  and fashionable with oversized pockets and padding mixed with feminine combinations of silks and fur detailing. This collection will carry every girl through the cold winter weather.

Mandy Coons collection brings a gothic-grunge take on the Grunge trend. Her emphasis on line is created using leather and structured fabrics in a black, red and green colour palette emphasise the simple silhouettes creating clean, strong structures.

Prabal Gurung brought to the table a new take on red carpet glamour. Glamorous dresses teamed with hard-edged leather gloves and sliced tights give a 1980's Madonna styling to the collection adding another designer to the grunge fan base. Combining a mixture of fabrics and textures this stand out from the crowd collection will either be a hit or miss among fashion lovers. It's miss-matched grouping and styling is not for the light hearted however I am definitely a fan and will gladly accept the challenge of glamming up grunge this coming fall.

First Post...How exciting!

Ok, so here goes. I thought I would take this time to tell you a little about myself. I am an all round Fashion Lover. With a BA (Hons) Fashion under my belt I am facing the world head on with my creative mechanical mind. I like to think outside the box and this blog will give me the opportunity to express my love of all things creative and inspiring. Incorporating a mix of fashion, art, style, decor and well anything else that tickles my fancy. Its the perfect pic'n'mix treat.
